What is the Community Christmas Choir?

The choir is a seasonal gathering of Christian believers from all backgrounds consisting of volunteers from area church choirs, semi-professional singers, music teachers, and others who have a passion for singing and ministering to the Lord and others through song. Laypersons and music lovers rehearse the bulk of the season separate from semi-professionals, professional singers, and music teachers so that the needs of less-experienced singers can be given priority. Typically, trained singers (as denoted by those holding a degree in music) will join the choir in the last few rehearsals.

What type of music is performed?

Music styles may vary from traditional to contemporary. The performance is always accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra ranging in size from 20-30 pieces.

When are the rehearsals?

The choir meets at The Light of Christ Church each Sunday from 4:00-5:35pm in room 203. During the week of the performance, rehearsals are also held Tuesday - Friday evenings so that all members can polish the details in anticipation of the Saturday evening performance. Rehearsals are purposefully fast-paced, fun-filled, and jammed with information that will help participants to produce excellence in vocal music. Each participant receives a rehearsal CD and songbook that remains in their possession until the conclusion of the season. Participants are expected to practice their part daily so that rehearsal time can be devoted to developing good blend, dynamics, and articulation.

Is there a cost?

There is no monetary cost to join the Community Christmas Choir. It is expected, however, that participants will be faithful in their devotion to this project throughout the duration of the season.

Who is the choir director/conductor?

The choir is conducted by Isaac Bruton, the Music Director at The Light of Christ church. Mr. Bruton is a graduate of Campbell University and holds the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition. Additionally, he is currently enrolled in the Master of Music program at East Carolina University, and is the choral director at Goldsboro High School. Mr. Bruton holds professional associations with the Music Educators National Conference, the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Southeastern Composers League.
