Dr. D’Muhala has been a consultant to the Department of
Defense (DOD), the Department of Energy DOE), and Intek Marine Technology, LLC,
in Fairfax Va.
He was formerly Vice President and Chief Science Officer of Corpex
Technologies Inc., located in Research
Triangle Park, N.C. Before
moving to North Carolina in 1993 with his
wife, Donna, Tom was President of Nuclear Technology Corporation (NUTEK), in Amston, Connecticut
for twenty-three years. Prior to that,
he was Director of Nuclear Operations at General Dynamics Corporation. Dr. D’Muhala spent most of his professional
career in the Nuclear Weapons Complex.
The Shroud of Turin is a 14’3” wide 3’7” long, fine linen
cloth, believed, by many, to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ. It bears the image of a crucified man with
all the markings associated with the gospels accounts of Jesus’
crucifixion. The Shroud has resided in Turin, Italy
for the past 433 years.
The Shroud came to the attention of American Scientists in
the mid 1970’s. In 1978, the Shroud of
Turin Research Project, Inc. (STURP) was formed to enable more than 30
scientists, technicians, and logistic support personnel, to spend five 24-hour
days conducting hands-on examination and research on the Shroud in Turin, Italy. STURP members have since published numerous
peer-reviewed papers in science journals.
Dr. D’Muhala was a founder, board member, and president of STURP, until
1996, at which time the corporation was retired.
In 1996, at the urging of Ecclesiastic Authorities, the
American Shroud of Turin Association for Research (AMSTAR) was incorporated to
serve as a vehicle for conducting future conservation/scientific tests on the
Shroud. AMSTAR sponsored periodic
international scientific conferences on the Shroud, and facilitated research
activities in Turin, Italy. Dr. D’Muhala served as the President and
Board Chairman of AMSTAR.
In
2007, Dr. D’Muhala became President and Board Chairman of Evidentiary Research
Institute (ERI). ERI’s key objective is
to become a “bridge” between/or among other Shroud researchers and groups, to
foster cooperation, and to encourage research efforts along a planned,
coordinated path. |
